Resident Evil 5 (RE5, 2009)

– Truest Strike
Resposta: Em “Lost In Nightmares”, nós queríamos mostrar nosso respeito e apreço pelo Resident Evil original.

A pós-produção, conseguir autorização?

Part 1:

1. After the team finished the Lost in Nightmares episode, were there any monsters from past Resident Evil games that you would have liked to use, but didn’t due to certain reasons or time constrictions? Like the snake, or any other monster from another RE evil game? – Truest Strike
In “Lost in Nightmares”, we wanted to show our respect and appreciation for the original Resident Evil. On that note, I think the “Hunter” could have been a great addition. It’s a pretty vicious enemy and not very easy to take down so it would have complimented the suspense and feel of “Lost in Nightmares” nicely. I’m sure the fans would’ve loved to see this as well. It still gives me chills when I think about the scene where you’re being stalked by the “Hunter” in the original Resident Evil 1 camera style.

2. How did the Guardian of Insanity come to be, and where did they get their anchors? – Gunslinger
Spencer was conducting top-secret human experiments in the basement of his mansion. The Guardians of Insanity are the victims of the cruel experiments where innocent people are exposed to the virus. Spencer’s mansion is located near the harbor warehouses and the Guardians of Insanity seem to have access to those warehouse facilities through one of the mansion’s many secret underground pathways. The Guardians seem to wander around the area so perhaps that’s where they got their anchors.

3. Do you believe it’s possible to have a balance of brutal action and suspenseful horror, or do you believe one has to be sacrificed in favor of the other? – Mooseifer
I think both aspects are equally important in the Resident Evil franchise. Not only do we want players to feel the fear lingering around them, but we also want players to feel like they’re in life threatening danger throughout the course of the game. Naturally, all of the action derived from that “fear” will be intense. Players will try to find safe havens from pursuing enemies, but it won’t be very easy with all of the other threats that await you. Since players are in control of the experience, they can really feel the emotions that the story conveys, and I think that is one of the greatest things about gaming.

4. What was the most challenging part of making the dlc? Ie post production, getting the greenlight on it. Or was it making the content that was more difficult? – Turian
We spent a good amount of time producing the cut scenes for the DLC episodes. For the original RE5 storyline we had the luxury of using orchestral recordings and Hollywood production studios, so it was quite a challenge for us to develop contents of similar quality within a limited time frame. In addition, we tried to integrate the “Desperate Escape” cut scenes with the original RE5, so we had to utilize clips from the original RE5 storyline and edit in the newly made “Desperate Escape” content clips to make one big animated sequence. We were extra cautious to make the quality consistent throughout the cut scenes and spent quite a lot of time to finalize them.

5. What made the dev team decide to choose “Lost in Nightmares” as the title? – girlinblue
We wanted to express Chris’s feelings of despair after losing his long-time partner. On top of that, we thought about various terms to express some sort of unreality of re-experiencing the past and the word “Nightmare” fit perfectly. So the title expresses Chris’s profound sense of loss and the fear of unforgettable nightmares.

Part 2:

1. What was your favorite part, or part you are most proud of in Desperate Escape? – Brian
The part I like best is the scene at the telecommunication facility. We tried to create a scene that looks familiar, but is equally new to players. This was done by mixing the event scene included in the original RE5 with a new scene created for Desperate Escape. Was Josh there beside Jill at that moment in the original? That’s the mystery and the sensation we wanted to capture. We hope the players enjoy the excitement.

2. As Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape begin to fill in the gaps of the RE5 story, were there any other parts of the game plot where you felt could have been expounded on? or that you wanted to include but couldn’t? – Chris
The story of what happens to Josh after leaving Chris and Sheva at the ruin still hasn’t been told. Also, the duties of Sheva and Josh prior to the RE5 time period is not covered either. They probably have a lot to tell, so a Co-op story of Sheva/Josh pair could have also been interesting.

3. After now having made a little more action-oriented Resident Evil game and then adding DLC that brings back some of the survival horror vibes found in earlier titles, which type have you felt is more difficult to make? – eskimo bob
Horror-oriented games are much harder to make when mixed with Co-op game play. But we still decided to go for it, kind of like an experiment, since this episode was going to be DLC. The volume was just right for this kind of challenge.
Co-op play creates many different types of difficulties. For instance, it is hard to coordinate moves, and simply having a teammate tends to destruct the tension we intend to create. Making this DLC was similar to feeling our way around in the dark, but we made it. We feel that it was worthwhile trying it out.

4. As you’ve said before, Lost in Nightmares paid homage to the original RE. Did the team have any particular games in the series in mind as they worked on Desperate Escape? – EvilSuperSean
We aimed to create the ultimate challenge with Desperate Escape for RE5 fans. We included lots of action content, in particular at the Professional difficulty level, which is almost impossible even for the developers to clear. We also tried to make RE5 fans happy by creating a scenario that includes new events that overlap with ones players are familiar with from the original RE5 storyline.

5. Josh has a lot of cool wrestling moves like elbow drops and suplexes, what prompted the team to incorporate them in his arsenal of close combat moves? It certainly would be interesting if he had a pro wrestling background. – SpeedBrkr
The actual reason… we have a professional wrestling fan in charge on our team…. Let’s set that aside for now (lol)! I don’t think there is a chance that Josh has a pro wrestling background, but there might be a chance that he is a fan.
